A Gentle Care Guide for Reborn Dolls

Simple handling, display, and storage practices, with a reminder to follow care instructions for the specific doll you own.

Reborn dolls are detailed art pieces, and gentle care helps protect their finish and accessories. Construction and materials vary from doll to doll, so the instructions that came with your specific piece should always take priority over general advice. When in doubt, ask the maker or seller before using a cleaner, applying a product, or changing how the doll is stored.

Handle slowly and support the doll

Use clean, dry hands when handling a doll. Lift and reposition it carefully, supporting the head and body rather than pulling on a limb, rooted hair, eyelashes, or clothing. Keep small accessories together in a safe place when they are not being used. Avoid placing food or drinks near the doll, since spills can stain fabric or affect delicate details.

Some collectors prefer to use a clean blanket or padded surface when changing clothing or taking photographs. This reduces contact with rough or dirty surfaces. If a piece has delicate hair, attached accessories, or a particular pose, follow the care guidance provided for it.

Choose a stable display location

Place the doll somewhere steady and away from direct sunlight, heaters, fireplaces, damp areas, and busy walkways. Strong light can fade fabrics and may affect some finishes over time. Keep the display out of reach of pets and young children, especially when the doll has small removable items.

For storage, use a clean, dry place and a soft layer of fabric between the doll and harder surfaces. Avoid stacking items on top. If you store the doll for a long period, check it occasionally and follow any special instructions from its maker.

Avoid guessing about cleaning

Do not assume that every reborn can be bathed, washed, or cleaned in the same way. Cloth bodies, vinyl parts, silicone surfaces, paint finishes, rooted hair, and adhesives can have different care requirements. Use only the methods and products recommended for the materials in your doll. The care notes on a product listing are a useful starting point; ask the studio if your question is not answered.

If you are choosing your first piece, our collector journal has more practical guidance. You can also contact us with a care question and the name of the doll.
